These Buttons Let You:

Caregivers stay one step ahead with Smart Home Technology with Alarm Engineering powered by alarm.com

Caregivers: Be One Step Ahead Thanks to Smart Home Technology

If you are one of the nearly 35 million Americans who currently provide unpaid care for a family member aged over 50, new smart home technology is available that can support your loved one’s independence, and also provide you priceless peace of mind – for much less than you think.

Independent Living Solutions from Alarm Engineering powered by Alarm.com

More than an Emergency Button

Now, smart home technology is stepping into this gap with connected living solutions designed with both the older adult AND caregiver in mind. Originally developed to alert homeowners to unwelcome activity, connected home security technology can keep both family and professional caregivers connected to aging adults and one step ahead of emerging health issues instead of reacting after an emergency has occurred.

Alarm Engineering’s Independent Living solution is powered by alarm.com, an intelligent smart home security platform trusted by millions, combines hardware and software to benefit you.

Unlike older technology which alerts caregivers only after something bad happens, we can now intelligently monitor quality of life through a suite of discreet activity sensors and smart devices installed around the home to proactively alert caregivers to potential health issues detected in real-time activity data.

A USA Today report explains: “Wellness can report about changes in activity levels, sleeping and eating patterns, bathroom visit frequency and medication adherence, as well as emergency situations like wandering out of the home or falls.”

For the older adult, Independent Living Solutions offers a full suite of smart home technology to make life safer and easier. Devices like smart thermostats and smart lighting can be automated and even voice-controlled, providing comfort and security without adding complexity. Video and smart locks enhance daytime security and make access easier for family and homecare visitors. Because this technology uses the security system as the brain, service is on hand, 24-7, to respond to an emergency signal or panic button alert from the home.

As more and more family caregivers learn about these new Independent Living Solutions, commercial care providers are also discovering the benefits. These scalable solutions can be installed throughout a residential community, enabling staff to develop personalized care plans, based on data-driven insights, that better serve residents’ needs.

Part of the integrated Smart Home is awareness that benefits you in ways you may not have considered.

Real-Time Awareness = Peace of Mind

Part of the integrated Smart Home is awareness that benefits you in ways you may not have considered.

You already know contact sensors work for doors and windows. You may not know that same technology can be used for so much more. Next, you and your family have patterns; times you leave for work, school and activities. Your security system is smart enough to learn what may be out of the ordinary and give you a heads up.

What is a Contact Sensor?

Let’s take a step back and talk about what contact sensors are and how they work. Contact sensors tell your security system if something is open or closed.

A single contact sensor is made of two pieces: one installed on the movable feature (like the door) and one on the stationary feature (like the door jamb). When it’s opened and the pieces move apart, the sensor signals ‘open’ to your security system.

Contact sensors were created to trigger the alarm – to sound the alarm if the ‘open’ signal is sent when the alarm is set. Contact sensors will also warn you if you try to arm the system while a contact is open or separated.

In an Alarm Engineering Smart Home, those contact sensors can serve a much greater role.

The sensor’s open or closed status can send you real-time alerts so you know when something is open or closed around your home. These are easy to customize, so you can set them up to get the exact information you want. For example, you can get an alert if a window is open when you to go bed, or if you leave home without closing the back door.

But they can do so much more.

Because contact sensors are wireless, you can put them on almost anything you want to keep tabs on. Here are some examples:

  • Protect valuables: place one on a safe at home or on your jewelry box so you always know when those areas are accessed or if you just forgot to close it.
  • Protect the yard: receive an alert if someone opens the gate to your yard or accesses the pool gate.
  • Protect food: get a real-time alert if one of the kids left the freezer door open.
  • Protect off limit areas: your gun cabinet or where you store harmful chemicals like paint thinner is a perfect area to monitor closely.

Your security system gets to know your everyday patterns and can let you know if something out of the ordinary is happening.

Unexpected Activity

These proactive notifications take intelligent protection to the next level. If you have little ones or aging parents, Unexpected Activity notifications can help. Your security system powered by alarm.com gets to know your everyday patterns and can let you know if something out of the ordinary is happening. Here are some areas where these Unexpected Activity alert can save the day:

  • External doors: your doors probably see lots of activity on weekdays. But if your curious four-year old is opening the door at 6am on a weekend, your Unexpected Activity alert lets you know.
  • Medicine cabinet: if you have young children, you want to know if they are accessing an area that may be harmful. If you have an aging parent, you may want to be sure they are taking their medication on schedule.
  • Top of the stairs: little ones can wander at night if they aren’t feeling well, had a bad dream or just are looking for some fun. If their bedroom is near the stairs you can be alerted before a potential tumble.
  • Door to garage: the garage area may be off-limits to your kids, but they might still be tempted. This area is likely busy during the weekends, but if you have a curious little one heading out there on a weekday, get an alert right away.

Big Savings

If you’re already an Alarm Engineering customer, upgrading your system to Smart Home technology is a breeze! Our Customer Loyalty Rewards allow you to claim up to $500 to upgrade your system to use cellular technology so you don’t need your phone line.  Here's what makes working with an Alarm Engineering professional a smarter approach to your Smart Home.

DIY Smart Home? Most Users Want More

Are you thinking about upgrading to a Smart Home, but overwhelmed by all that’s involved? You’re not alone.

Unlike the Smart Home’s first wave of users—those uber tech-savvy ‘early adopters’—most homeowners are a little nervous about buying, installing, and configuring smart home technology without expert help. In fact, 83 percent of you would consider relying on a smart home professional.

The good news is that we were the first to bring integrated Smart Home technologies to the Shore and we’re ready to help. We can make sure you enjoy the security and convenience that an integrated smart home solution provides and frees you up to get back to the rest of your Honey Do list.

Choosing our team is a better approach to your Smart Home. We offer both full service professional installation and a hybrid DIY approach. If you are interested in DIY security, we can get you started and our team is here to help if you experience any issues with set up.

Smart Home Technology Can be Challenging to Set Up

Using Smart Home technology is easy and convenient, but setting it up can be anything but. Like anything that has to be wired or fixed into your home, installing smart home devices can be a challenge. Configuring them can be even harder, especially if you buy different devices that don't integrate easily.

Using Smart Home technology is easy, but setting it up can be anything but. Like anything that has to be wired or fixed into your home, installing smart home devices can be a challenge. Configuring them can be even harder, especially if you buy different devices that don’t integrate easily.

Our installation professionals are experts at the electrical wiring, installation and troubleshooting required to set up integrated smart home features.  In addition installing your devices physically, they’ll also quickly configure every device with Alarm.com’s smart home security platform so your experience is as seamless as possible.

Don’t Waste Time with Store Returns

Don't Waste Time with Store Returns

Our team doesn’t leave you to go it alone once your system is installed. We’re always on hand to help if you have any questions. Because smart home technology becomes part of your home’s infrastructure once installed, that’s important.

If one of your devices doesn’t work the way it should, for example, we will work with you to troubleshoot and fix it remotely. If that’s not possible, a technician will come to your house. You won’t need to troubleshoot things yourself, and you’ll never find yourself having to uninstall an essential device—say, your thermostat, in midwinter—and ship it off to get repaired.

To include a device, check the circle to the left of it, then specify what you want the device to do.

If you like to stay cozy under a blanked, let’s turn the temperature down for this Scene too.

Movies require a blanket, so we're turning the temperature down for this Scene.

Of course the lights have to go off for the movie.

Finally, we're going to have the hallway and living room lights turn off, for perfect movie ambiance.

You might think that smart devices are the definition of a smart home. Smart devices are an important part of building a smart home, but some smart devices alone doesn't make a smart home.

Smart Devices are Only a Part of The Smart Home

You might think that smart devices are the definition of a smart home. Smart devices are an important part of building a smart home, but some smart devices alone doesn’t make a smart home.

So what makes a home smart?

The Coach

Think of your favorite sports team. Each player has important and specialized skills, but they can only win games by working together.

The foundation of a good team is the coach. Throughout the game, the coach gets information from players and assistants to understand the big picture of what’s happening on the field. With this information, he can call the plays and makes sure each player contributes.

The true smart home has such a coach: your security system. Your security system controls every device in the home. It gathers intelligence from around the home and coordinates actions to make the home safer, smarter and more efficient.

You might not see what’s happening behind the scenes, but you will definitely notice the unique features and value that only a security-controlled smart home can deliver.

Video monitoring is a popular smart home security solution. Standalone smart cameras record motion-triggered clips of activity in the home and send them to the homeowner, providing valuable awareness of what’s going on.

An integrated video system can do more. The security system can tell the platform who disarmed the system or where important activity is happening, such as someone entering the back door. With this information the platform intelligently directs the camera to capture important activity and then alerts you with a video clip on your smart phone.

When the homeowner disarms the system, the camera doesn’t record. The platform enhances awareness when you’re away and privacy when you’re home.

Your smart home sensing opportunities to save energy

A standalone smart thermostat knows when you walk in front of it. But that’s not a lot of information to decide whether it should make the entire home comfortable, or set back to save energy.

A smart home can trigger energy saving opportunities depending on where you are. For example, if you’re away the thermostat can automatically change to the ‘away’ temperature and the lights shut off if they were left on. This saves you money and time. You’re also not sacrificing comfort because when you are near home, the thermostat readjusts to a comfortable temperature, the lights come on and the door unlocks for you.

Your smart home on the lookout for water damage

Smart devices can help protect your property. For example, a water sensor can alert you that a pipe is leaking in your second home hours away.

A smart home can go further and respond proactively. When the water sensor is triggered the platform immediately commands a connected water valve in the basement to shut off the home’s water.

And that’s just the beginning. While the standalone device offers value in each case, the platform is the key to multiplying their value and solving complex, real-life challenges for homeowners.
